The overall goal of the project is to support the preservation of the Gagauz language and culture, as well as, through the study of the state language, to promote the maximum involvement of the inhabitants of the Gagauz-Yeri autonomy in social processes and in governing the country. For this purpose, we have created a wide expert platform with the participation of specialists from Gagauzia, Chisinau and from abroad, we conduct focus groups and in-depth interviews, work on creating a road map for improving the study and functioning of the Gagauz and Romanian languages in the ATU Gagauz-Yeri.

The objectives of the project are the following:

  • Improve the understanding on the overall framework for the functioning of the Gagauz and Romanian languages in Gagauz-Yeri ATU;
  • Facilitate institutional collaboration between the key stakeholders to achieve sustainable improvement in the study of the Gagauz and Romanian language in the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauz-Yeri;
  • Increase public awareness about the study of the Gagauz and Romanian languages in Gaguz-Yeri ATU.

Funding for this project is provided by the Embassy Office of the Netherlands in Moldova and the Soros Foundation Moldova.
