A group of researchers, policy analysts, journalists and civil society representatives from Germany were in the Republic of Moldova from 10-14 December 2023 for a study visit organised by the Institut für Europäische Politik, in partnership with the Institute for Strategic Initiatives and the Institute for European Policies and Reforms.

The purpose of the visit was to provide an insight into the reform processes aimed at Moldova’s integration into the EU and the political situation in the country, which is influenced by the consequences of the Russian war against Ukraine and Russia’s attempts to destabilise the country.

On the first day, participants held a series of meetings with representatives of the Moldovan Parliament and Presidency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, the Office of Reintegration Policy, as well as representatives of the opposition.

On the second day, after visiting the Agency for Inter-ethnic Relations, the German guests travelled to Comrat, where they met and discussed with representatives of the local public authorities and the People’s Assembly of ATU Gagauzia, as well as with experts from the region, including representatives of civil society.

The third day started with the #NEXT4EU workshop. Participants exchanged views and opinions with representatives of Moldovan civil society on topics related to EU integration, disinformation, foreign policy and reintegration of the country.

The visit ended with a series of meetings at the EU Delegation to Moldova and the EU Partnership Mission to Moldova, where participants discussed the role of these institutions and EU policies.

The project “NEXT4EU – Young Generation for EU Integration in Moldova”  is funded by the German Federal Foreign Office.
