EED: How a group of like-minded people went from discussing Moldova’s future over coffee to making a real difference

As we drink a morning tea and unwrap some local chocolates, Andrei Popov, one of IPIS’s founders, and Maria Levcenco, Coordinator of Media and Communications and designer of this attractive office space, both admit they both barely slept last night. For once, this is not because of political upheavals in Moldova; they blame their teething babies. They join Ina Shupac, IPIS Executive Director. Another of IPIS’s founders, Vladislav Kulminski, cannot join us today as he is in Minsk in his capacity as Adviser on Foreign Policy and Strategic planning to Maia Sandu’s former government.* Popov explains that IPIS was created in 2016 when a group of like-minded prominent individuals more used to dissecting and discussing their country’s challenges over coffee, decided to form a new entity that could make a real difference to Moldova. #WEandEU in Nisporeni: IPIS, IPRE and IEP learned how local people see the process of Moldova’s association with the EU

The participants of our second regional dialogue with citizens, held within the “EU in Moldova: Perceptions and Realities” programme, were able to share their opinions on Moldova’s relations with the European Union and to find out how they can access the European funds. 

We are continuing Transnistrian dialogues

This year, we decided to dedicate our Dialogues to young people and gathered 40 people from both banks of the Nistru river.

#WeandEU: Dialogue in Basarabeasca

How do we perceive the European Union and what does our cooperation really mean? What does the association with the EU envisage and what possibilities does this agreement offer for Moldova? How to get access to European funds? How does the European Union affect the observance of human rights and ethnic communities in Moldova? These and other questions were discussed with the citizens of Basarabeasca during our first regional dialogue, which took place in the framework of the program “EU in Moldova: Perceptions and Reality”.

#WEandEU – a project aims at increasing citizens’ understanding of the EU-Moldova Association Agreement

The overall objective of the project is to make a substantial contribution to overcoming the social dividing lines of the EU rapprochement process in Moldova by promoting informed intra-societal dialogue on the values and norms underlying the Association Agreement and the concrete benefits of modernising Moldova in the course of the EU rapprochement process.
