The fifth NEXT4EU policy dialogue on April 12, 2024, was dedicated to two crucial issues for the future EU integration of Moldova. Firstly, the collaboration between civil society organisations and the government. Secondly, the plans to hold a constitutional referendum on EU integration on the same day as the presidential elections in October of this year.

Our colleague Inna Șupac is one of over 30 researchers who has been invited to contribute to the annual publication of the Centre for Baltic and East European Studies located at Södertörn University in Sweden.
Inna provides an overview of the diversity of challenges in the Republic of Moldova, both on a macro level and a grassroots level, and gives a preliminary analysis of the implications for the country’s future.
The human resource crisis in public institutions is an acute problem. First of all, this crisis is manifested in the large number of vacant positions. Recruitment and retention of qualified staff is a problem that will also affect the speed of EU accession negotiations.
Economic development, facilitating business activity and attracting investment is one of the key priorities announced by the Moldovan Government on its EU integration path. With a new edition of the Policy Dialogue series the NEXT4EU project team arrived in Edinet, a city that has demonstrated significant success in attracting investments from the country’s development partners.
A group of researchers, policy analysts, journalists and civil society representatives from Germany were in the Republic of Moldova from 10-14 December 2023 for a study visit organised by the Institut für Europäische Politik, in partnership with the Institute for Strategic Initiatives and the Institute for European Policies and Reforms.
Violence against women and girls is the most widespread human rights violation worldwide. Although the subject of human rights protection has been discussed in depth at the central level, this reform priority for Moldova, previously formulated by the European Commission, needs to be actively pursued in the regions.

(Română) Provocările multiple pe care Republica Moldova le-a traversat în ultimii ani nu au făcut decât să demonstreze capacitatea de reziliență a țării și să traseze direcțiile clare de dezvoltare. Aceste dificultăți au scos în evidență nevoia de a dezvolta parteneriate strânse cu comunitatea internațională pentru a gestiona și depăși obstacolele. Uniunea Europeană a confirmat prin fapte angajamentul său ferm de a sprijini și a apropia Moldova de comunitatea europeană.
