#WEandEU: People of Drochia spoke about their perception of the EU in Moldova
The participants in our fourth regional dialogue with citizens, which we carry out within the “EU in Moldova: Perceptions and reality” programme, had the opportunity to share their assessments on Moldova’s relations with the European Union, while IPIS, IPRE and IEP dispel some myths about EU.

Brussels and EU countries support both small and large projects. Grigorii Kissa, a young entrepreneur from Comrat, was able to purchase equipment for his heating briquette workshop in 2017 with EU support. Today his business is developing successfully and he even plans to expand it.

One of the advantages of the Association Agreement is closer cooperation with the EU, and thus a larger volume of grant aid. For example, Armenia, which has not signed such an agreement with the EU, receives from the EU half as much financial resources per capita for the development of local projects as Moldova. During the last 15 years Moldova has received from the EU 1 billion Euros in the form of grant aid.

Vocal social campaigns at local level
During 2020, the IPIS team is running a program called “Vocal social campaigns at the local level”. The programme includes six seminars in three regions of the country: North, Centre and South. Participants in these workshops will gain practical skills and knowledge to achieve their goals by working with local authorities and promoting their initiatives through communication campaigns.
The IPIS program “Vocal social campaigns at local level” is implemented within the Grant Programme “Development of civil society at local level in Moldova”, financed by the EU and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation (KAS).

As we drink a morning tea and unwrap some local chocolates, Andrei Popov, one of IPIS’s founders, and Maria Levcenco, Coordinator of Media and Communications and designer of this attractive office space, both admit they both barely slept last night. For once, this is not because of political upheavals in Moldova; they blame their teething babies. They join Ina Shupac, IPIS Executive Director. Another of IPIS’s founders, Vladislav Kulminski, cannot join us today as he is in Minsk in his capacity as Adviser on Foreign Policy and Strategic planning to Maia Sandu’s former government.* Popov explains that IPIS was created in 2016 when a group of like-minded prominent individuals more used to dissecting and discussing their country’s challenges over coffee, decided to form a new entity that could make a real difference to Moldova. The call is announced within the project “Transnistrian dialogues – empowering younger generation of societal influencers to promote solutions in the context of Transnistria conflict”, implemented by IPIS and supported by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
Transnistrian Dialogues
The Transnistrian Dialogues is a programme of the Institute of Strategic Initiatives aimed at reducing
the dividing lines between the two banks of the Dniester River by creating a platform for interaction
between their populations. Every year, we are selecting 40 people and creating conditions for their
rational dialogue.
The programme is implemented with the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Moldova.
